Luxury home owners in San Diego, especially Rancho Santa Fe …
…. are eagerly anticipating the start of a new airline service, out of Palomar Airport.
Officially called McClellan-Palomar, the airport is owned by the County of San Diego. As of March 2013, the airport was the fourth-busiest single runway airport in the United States.
Facilities are pretty nice and modern at Palomar. Avis and Hertz have desks and cars for those non residents visits.
United Express is currently the only carrier to offer service, running daily flights between LA and Carlsbad.
But that’s about to change!
The airport is planned to be the main base for California Pacific Airlines, which will begin flights on six routes from the airport in 2013.
This is big news as no new airlines have started since 2007, when Sir Richard Branson launched Virgin America.
To make it even more interesting the fledgling airline is founded by 91 year old Ted Vallas, a North County developer.
The destinations planned are appealing. They are to Sacramento, San Jose and Oakland, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Phoenix, Arizona; and Cabo San Lucas; Mexico – using 72-seat Embraer 170 jet.
