For decades, Downtown La Jolla, better known as “The Village” has been a favorite of wealthy vacationers and retirees and those seeking to enjoy all that La Jolla has to offer.
As you can see from the location map (right) La Jolla Village is not that large at all, but contains some of the most expensive condos in the country.
The La Jolla real estate market for luxury condos has improved this year over last, with 23 condos sold in excess of $1,000,000 year to date (10/12/2012), compared to only 9 sales in that price range & time period last year.
Many of these La Jolla’s luxury condos are owned by either North Eastern Snowbirds, or those from Texas or Arizona, escaping the viscous summer heat.
Most of the condo buildings in La Jolla are a little older but almost all are very well kept and most have been refurbished. The most well known at 939 Coast, is a luxury condominium building across the street from the ocean. At 21 stories the highest building in La Jolla.
Soon after is was built in 1960, the city passed an ordinance limiting the height of new buildings to 30′. Just a well otherwise La Jolla would be littered with highrises and look more like Monaco 🙂
939 Coast is a full service building with 24 hour front concierge for parking cars, greeting/screening guests, helping with packages etc. The building has recently undergone a facelift with new lobby and portico. All these services make the building ideal for a second or third home away from home.
There is a heated pool, spa, state of the art exercise facility, with spa-like bathrooms, billiard room, Library, Common Room for parties, guest suites that can be rented by the night and on-site property management.
Many of the units overlook the Childrens Pool (now occupied by the seals). They have proved to be quite the tourist attraction over the past few years.

La Jolla oceanfront condos:
In the whole of La Jolla there are only 4 buildings that are actually on the ocean – shown in the photo below. These 4 are located at the southern end of Coast Blvd at numbers 100, 202, 220 and 240 Coast.
100 Coast Boulevard is actually two buildings with a pool running down between them, most of the units have sideways views of the water unless you choose one on the end facing the ocean. 202 Coast is a very nice upscale condo conversion that was completed in 2002. 220 and 240 Coast Blvd are older but both have nicely refurbished common areas.
There are of course many other condo buildings in La Jolla Village to choose from, depending on availability.
